Single vs double stroller in Orlando

The question is not how many children you have. It is how many of them will still be walking at 4:00 PM in an Orlando August.

Decide by age, not by headcount

  • Two children both under 4: double, without hesitation
  • One under 3, one aged 5 to 6: single, plus a rider board if your older one flags — most days they walk
  • One under 3, one aged 4: double. Four-year-olds walk 4 miles a day; Orlando park days run 8 to 12
  • One child under 5: single
  • Three children under 6: a double plus a single, or a double and a carrier for the youngest

Heat changes the answer

From May through September, plan for a child roughly one age band younger than they behave at home. Heat and humidity flatten stamina fast, and a child who never asks to be carried in April will ask in July.

The seat is also the only shaded, ventilated place your child will get between attractions. Two seats means two children can rest at once instead of taking turns.

Width, buses and lifts

Both of our doubles are side-by-side and both are under the 31-inch width cap the major Orlando parks apply — 29.5 inches for the City Mini double, 30 inches for the GT2 double. They clear turnstiles, shop doorways and resort lifts.

Every stroller must be folded on Disney buses, the monorail, the Skyliner and the Universal water taxis. Doubles fold as easily as singles here, but they are heavier to lift — 26 lb and 32 lb respectively.

What a double actually costs you

About $15 to $20 more over a week, plus a slightly bigger fold in the car boot. That is the whole downside. Families who under-buy on size regret it far more often than families who over-buy.

Questions

Will a double stroller fit through the Orlando park entrances?

Yes. Both of our doubles are under the 31-inch width limit the major parks apply.

My children are 2 and 5. Single or double?

A single is usually enough if your five-year-old is a strong walker, but in summer heat many families in that split still prefer a double.

Can a double carry bags in the second seat?

Yes, with light loads kept low and centred so the stroller does not tip.
