Guide

Orlando airport with kids

MCO is a well-run airport with one structural problem for families: the distance between your gate and your car.

The shuttle between the gates and baggage claim

Most MCO gates sit on airside buildings connected to the main terminal by an automated people mover. You cannot walk it. With a folded stroller, two bags and a toddler, budget 20 minutes from the aircraft door to the baggage hall — double what the signage suggests.

Terminal C, which handles most international and some domestic arrivals, is newer and has a shorter walk, but its ground transportation level is a floor below the baggage hall.

Where to meet gear on arrival

  • Terminal A and B arrivals: baggage claim hall, level 2
  • Terminal C arrivals: ground transportation level, near the garage crosswalk
  • Rental car centre: level 1 of the parking garage, not inside the counters
  • Send your flight number when you book so we can track delays

Departure day

Security lines at MCO peak between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM and again from 10:00 AM to noon. With children under five, arrive three hours before a domestic departure in peak season; you will not regret the extra hour in the airside play areas.

Return your rented gear at the departures kerb of your terminal. Text us 30 minutes out and we meet you as you unload.

Small things that help

  • Both airside buildings have children's play areas past security — worth the walk
  • Family lanes at security allow you to keep a child in a carrier through the metal detector
  • Nursing rooms are located in each airside and in the main terminal
  • Empty water bottles clear security and refill at fountains airside
